Lower Body Lift (Belt Lipectomy) — Cosmetic Surgery in Birmingham, Alabama
People who are in relatively good shape but have loose, excess lower body skin may be ideal candidates for lower body lift surgery. This procedure,
also known as a belt lipectomy, is very similar to that of a tummy tuck. But whereas a tummy tuck only addresses the loose skin and muscles of
the abdomen, the lower body lift also lifts and tightens the skin of the outer thighs, flanks, and buttocks. Liposuction may also be used as an
adjunctive procedure to "debulk" fatty deposits of the outer thighs which can further improve the results. Most often, lower body lifts are performed
to address sagging skin resulting from extreme weight loss after bariatric surgery, but people who have developed loose lower body skin with pregnancy
or aging may also be good candidates.
A lower body lift is a hospital procedure, usually requiring a stay of 1 to 2 days following the surgery. On the day of surgery, pre-operative
markings are made on the patient's body, indicating where the incisions will be made. The surgery is performed under general anesthetic, with the
patient fully asleep for the duration of the lower body lift procedure. The incisions used in lower body lifts are designed to be hidden by the
swimsuit or underwear, and usually run circumferentially around the lower waistline. Typically, our patients allow themselves 2 to 3 weeks after
surgery to recover before returning to work.
A lower body lift is a significant operation with the potential for significant improvements. Patients who have done the work to lose a large
amount of weight often find that a lower body lift completes the process — allowing them to fully enjoy the results of their hard work to
reshape their bodies. I encourage you to call our office to schedule a free consultation to determine if body contouring surgery such as a lower
body lift would be beneficial to you.
