Birmingham, Alabama Body Contouring
Cosmetic surgery procedures for the body available at our Alabama practice include liposuction and abdominoplasty,
also known as a tummy tuck. Each of these cosmetic surgery procedures is designed to enhance and sculpt a different
portion of your body. Board-certified plastic surgeon William Hedden, M.D., and the other medical professionals at
Hedden Plastic Surgery in Birmingham, Alabama are highly experienced in both administering cosmetic surgery procedures and
helping you decide what is right for you and your cosmetic goals.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure at our Alabama practice. It is often used in conjunction with a healthy
diet and exercise regimen because patients find that although healthy eating and regular exercise can help maintain a healthy
weight, they can't always get rid of ugly fat pockets on the thighs, hips, chin, arms, abdomen, back and other areas.
Liposuction is a great way to eliminate problem areas and obtain the toned physique sit-ups and running can't always give you.
During liposuction, a hollow tube is inserted into the area to be treated and excess fat is suctioned out, leaving the area
taut and smooth. Side effects of liposuction typically include general discomfort, swelling, bruising and burning sensations,
but they should subside within a few weeks. Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures at our Alabama
practice because of its dramatic results and relatively quick recovery time. Liposuction can be used in several ways and on
different areas of the body to achieve desired results. To learn more about liposuction at Hedden Plastic Surgery, please
contact us today! Cost: $2,000 plus nominal facility fee.

SmartLipo™ Laser-Assisted Lipolysis
Despite
strict diets and a committment to regular exercise, many people just cannot eliminate localized areas of fat, such as
around the abdomen or on the upper arms. With the SmartLipo LaserBodySculpting system, along with the skills of our caring
surgeons, patients are now able to achieve results they never thought possible. SmartLipo is ideal for treating localized fat
deposits on the face and body. In addition to melting fat, SmartLipo coagulates and tightens the tissue and induces collagen
production. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities, such as work, in virtually no time.

Mini Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
In addition to liposuction, another popular cosmetic surgery procedure known as a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is offered
at our Alabama practice. Abdominoplasty is a body contouring procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the midriff and
tightens the abdominal muscles. If you've got a protruding pouch on your lower abdomen that just won't go away, mini tummy tuck might just do the trick.
During the abdominoplasty procedure at our Alabama practice, unnecessary fat and tissue are removed from just the lower part
of the abdomen, and the underlying muscles and remaining skin and tissue are gently tightened. To learn more about the mini
tummy tuck and other abdominoplasty procedures, contact our Alabama cosmetic surgery office today!

Full Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
In addition to the mini tummy tuck, there is the full tummy tuck at our Alabama practice. Also known as abdominoplasty, a
full tummy tuck is a better option for those in need of more extensive treatment to get the results they desire.
During the full tummy tuck procedure at our Alabama practice, an incision is made across the abdomen from one hipbone to the
other, and the resulting flap of skin is gently folded down. Excess fat, tissue and skin are then trimmed away, and underlying
muscles are tightened and set in place. In the next step of the tummy tuck procedure, the flap is replaced and the incision is
sutured closed. Although side effects — bruising, swelling and discomfort — from a tummy tuck will occur, most
subside within a few weeks. To learn more about full tummy tuck, please contact our cosmetic surgeon in
Birmingham, Alabama at Hedden Plastic Surgery today.

Endoscopic Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Yet another way to tailor the abdominoplasty procedure is with endoscopic tummy tuck. Endoscopic abdominoplasty works best on
those patients who have a protruding abdomen but little extra skin.
During the abdominoplasty procedure (performed with an endoscope), a small incision is made in the abdomen or along the pubic
bone, and the underlying muscles are lifted and tightened. Endoscopic abdominoplasty is minimally invasive and has a shorter
recovery period than other types of abdominoplasty. To learn more about the cosmetic surgery procedure known as endoscopic
abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, contact us for cosmetic surgery in Alabama today.

Arm Lift
Flabby upper arms are a common complaint for many men and women after significant weight loss or just from the effects of
aging. An arm lift (also called brachioplasty) at our Birmingham, Alabama practice can dramatically lift and reshape the upper
arm to provide an improved contour and a more youthful appearance. During an arm lift, the sagging skin and excess fat are
removed and the remaining skin is tightened and stitched into place. Any excess deposits of fat that are present are usually
removed with liposuction. Contact us today to learn more about the arm lift or to schedule a free consultation.

Thigh Lift
Heavy or flabby thighs are a problem for many women and squats, exercise and dieting can't always get rid of them. However,
thigh lift has proven to be very effective in helping patients obtain thinner, more toned upper legs. Through a combination of
cosmetic surgery procedures including liposuction and the surgical removal of fat and unnecessary tissue, Dr. Hedden can sculpt
for you beautiful, shapely thighs. You will see an immediate difference in the contour of the thighs and will probably be more
comfortable wearing shorts, swimwear and other items of clothing that expose the legs.

Lower Body Lift
People who have lost a significant amount of weight — such as those who have undergone bariatric surgery — are
often left with excessive amounts of loose, sagging skin that doesn't tighten on its own. Such skin can detract from the
aesthetic appearance of weight loss. Lower body lift at Hedden Plastic Surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure that allows for
the removal of this skin. The skin is trimmed away and the remaining tissue is stretched neatly over underlying tissue and
muscles. Results can be life-changing! To learn more about lower body lifts, please contact our cosmetic
surgeon in Birmingham today.

Buttock Lift
Weight gain or loss, gravity and especially age can cause the buttocks to droop, losing shape and aesthetic appeal. A cosmetic
surgery procedure called a buttock lift can restore your rear end's youthful shape, giving you a taut, toned rear view and a
more streamlined figure. This cosmetic surgery procedure is performed using a combination of liposuction and surgical removal
of excess skin and tissue, producing long-lasting, natural-looking results. Removing sagging skin and excess fat from the
buttocks and outer thighs can dramatically improve the shape of your body and provide a boost to your self-esteem.

Body Contouring After Major Weight Loss
People who have lost a large amount of weight after bariatric surgery, after pregnancy or from diet and exercise can also
experience excess skin on different parts of the body. Skin that is stretched due to weight gain often lacks the elasticity to
adapt to the body's new contours after the weight is gone. Body contouring after major weight loss improves the shape and tone
of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin, and removes excess, sagging fat and skin to reveal a smoother body contour.
The procedures necessary to achieve your goals — such as lower body lift, breast lift, arm lift and thigh lift —
will be defined along with the help of our Alabama board-certified plastic surgeon. To learn more about body contouring after
weight loss, please Hedden Plastic Surgery in Birmingham today.

Body Contouring Implants
Shapely buttocks, calves and chests not only look great, but they can also increase one's self-esteem. Body contouring implants
can help you achieve smooth contours in areas that are not symmetrical, not well developed or have lost volume as part of the
natural aging process. Results are permanent and extremely natural-looking. To learn more about body contouring implants,

Lipodissolve
Lipodissolve is a non-surgical method for spot-fat reduction. The technique uses a series of micro-injections of a
naturally-occurring enzyme found in every cell of the body. The ingredients injected have actually been found to cause
necrosis of the fat cells. Fat is dissolved, metabolized and safely excreted by the kidneys. While there is no downtime,
it is normal to experience minor itching, bruising, swelling and redness for a few days after treatment. Patients receive
a series of 3 to 5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.

G-Spot Enhancement
G-Spot enhancement, one of the newest procedures available for the female body, is intended for women who would like to
increase their ability to achieve orgasm through vaginal stimulation. An injection of a cosmetic filler known as Prevelle
or collagen is used to enlarge the G-Spot, making it easier to stimulate and achieve orgasm. The effects last for
approximately 4 to 12 months. G-Spot enhancement can be done in our office-based surgical suite. It is an outpatient procedure
and you will be able to return to the comfort of home that same day.

Labiaplasty
Women with large or uneven vaginal lips caused by childbirth, aging, heredity or hormonal changes may experience rashes or
skin irritation and pain during sexual intercourse. Labiaplasty performed at our Birmingham, Alabama outpatient facility
reduces and/or balances the size of the labia to improve its appearance and enhance the sexual experience. During surgery
using twilight or general anesthesia, excess tissue is removed and self-dissolving sutures are used. Patients are up and
around immediately after the procedure and may usually resume sexual relations in about 6 weeks.
As an adjunct to surgery, some women find bio-identical hormones beneficial to increase
sexual drive, interest and gratification. Please contact our Alabama practice today to learn more.
